Learn how this ancient Roman settlement on the north shore of the River Thames developed over two thousand years to become a global leading centre for business.

The old walled City, or the ‘Square Mile’ was where deals were done and money was made. Learn how historic events including the Great Fire of London, World War Two and the ‘Big Bang’ have shaped the global centre of finance we see today.

Starting at St Paul’s Cathedral, we work our way through ancient Livery Companies, the Guild Hall, the Bank of England, the Insurance Quarter and the narrow alleys and passageways where early coffee shops gave birth to the Stock Exchange and Lloyds of London.
